William D. Roe
September 23, 1944 - July 2, 2012

"I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all."
- Tennyson, In Memoriam A.H.H.

After a valiant battle with cancer, William Dale "Bill" Roe died on July 2, 2012, at home. A native Oklahoman, Bill was born on September 23, 1944. He lived life to its fullest. A born leader, Bill was elected president of his high school class three years in a row, followed by election as President of his SAE pledge class at The University of Oklahoma and of the fraternity his senior year. Upon graduation, he and Peggy Ratcliffe began their 45-year marriage. After moving to Houston in 1969, Bill either became president or treasurer of every volunteer organization to which he belonged. Bill primarily put himself through college by working and winning scholarships. After graduating from OU, he earned an MPA from The University of Texas and became a CPA. His accounting acumen led him to public accounting, then commercial real estate, and ultimately to forming William D. Roe & Co. and managing Tanglewood Homeowners Association in Houstin. A dedicated family man, Bill prized his children's education and never missed opportunities to enrich their lives. He adored his children, their spouses, and his five grandchildren. His involvement in their lives was of the utmost importance to him. Faith was also a focus in Bill's life, and he exemplified his faith through his integrity, honesty, and trust in the Lord, making him the man of character whom others respected and admired.
Predeceased by his parents Betty and John Roe, Bill is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ratcliffe Roe, their children and grandchildren: William Price Roe (son) and his wife, Peggy and their children, sons Rush and Rex, Haise Roe Borgmann (daughter) and her husband Kevin, and their children Avery, Walker, and Leighton and Richard Taylor Roe (son). As well as his brother Harvie Roe and his wife, Jane Anne Roe and their families and valued sisters- and brothers-in-law, treasured nieces and nephews, and a legion of friends.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. River Oaks Breakfast Club members served as honorary pallbearers. The William D. Roe PLC Scholarship at the University of Oklahoma, (100 Timberdell Road, Norman, OK 73019) was highlighted for contributions.
